Environment Day: A Striking Window Display Promoting Sustainability

Creating Awareness Through Design

The unique feature of this window display is the striking hand-made drought wall that serves as the centerpiece. It symbolizes the impact of drought and the loss of Earth's natural resources. To emphasize the importance of sustainable actions, the design incorporates a "greenfield" that penetrates the "dryland." What sets this design apart is the use of sustainable and organic materials, with 98.2% of the display created from such resources.

The realization of this design involved the expertise of a local clay artist who worked for over two weeks to create the fissured appearance of the dryland. The clay was sun-dried for a week to achieve the desired texture. Additionally, the showcase surface was made by coating MDF plates with clay, while the green plants were crafted from moss. The texts and slogan were created by cutting wooden letters, and the red company logo in the middle of the showcase was lacquered.

This window display, with dimensions of 4650 mm x 30 mm x 3140 mm, was exhibited at the Arcelik Store in Kadikoy, Istanbul. The project, which started in April 2021 and concluded in June 2021, was specifically designed for Environment Day, celebrated on June 5th. It continues to be on display to raise awareness about sustainability.

The design team, consisting of members from Arcelik and Gravity Design, aimed to inspire consumers to consume responsibly and join efforts to conserve Earth's resources. By showcasing the importance of sustainable practices, they hope to encourage individuals to make a positive impact on the environment.

This remarkable design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects, and Green Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. The design's commitment to sustainability and its contribution to a better world were key factors in receiving this recognition.

Through this captivating window display, Gravity Design and Arcelik have successfully combined art, design, and sustainability to create a thought-provoking experience for viewers. By showcasing the importance of responsible consumption and production, they hope to inspire individuals to take action and contribute to a greener future.
